Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 12, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Inkwood ("Inkwood," "we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Inkwood application and related website (collectively, the "Service"). We are committed to protecting your privacy, and the Service is designed to be offline-first, meaning your writing and data live primarily on your own device.

1. Information We Collect

Account information. When you create an account, we collect basic account information such as your name and email address. Authentication is handled by a third-party authentication provider, and you may choose to sign in using a social account (such as Google or Apple), in which case we receive the basic profile information that provider shares with your consent.

Your content. Your manuscripts, notes, planning materials, worldbuilding entries, and other creative content are stored locally on your device. We do not host or store your content on our servers as part of the normal operation of the Service.

Usage information. We may collect limited, non-identifying technical information (such as browser type, device type, and aggregate usage statistics) to operate and improve the Service.

2. How We Use Information

  • To provide, maintain, and improve the Service;
  • To authenticate your account and keep it secure;
  • To process your requests, such as content generation features;
  • To communicate with you about the Service, where applicable; and
  • To detect, prevent, and address technical issues or abuse.

3. Third-Party Services

The Service integrates with third-party services to function:

  • Authentication provider. We use a third-party authentication service to manage sign-in and account identity. That service processes your account credentials under its own privacy policy.
  • Artificial intelligence providers. When you use AI-assisted features, the content you choose to send (such as a selected passage or a generation prompt) is transmitted to an AI provider to generate a response. AI providers may process this content under their own terms. We do not automatically send your manuscripts to AI providers — transmission only occurs when you actively use a generation feature.
  • Other providers. We may use other service providers (such as hosting or email providers) to operate the Service. We only share the information necessary for them to perform their functions.

4. Your API Keys

The Service allows you to connect your own API keys (for example, an OpenRouter API key) to use AI features. These keys are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to us. You are responsible for safeguarding your keys.

5. Cookies and Local Storage

The Service uses cookies and browser local storage to maintain your session, remember your preferences, and store your content on your device. You can clear this data through your browser settings; note that clearing site data will remove your locally stored content unless you have exported it.

6. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect information processed through the Service. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Because your content is stored on your device, you are responsible for keeping your device secure and backing up your content.

7. Data Retention and Deletion

Your content is retained locally on your device and can be deleted by you at any time, including by clearing your browser's site data. Account information is retained while your account exists. You may delete your account through the authentication provider or by contacting us, after which your account information is removed in accordance with applicable retention practices.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, correct, or delete information we hold about you. You may exercise these rights by contacting us at the address below.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

11. Contact

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or our data practices, please contact us at inkwoodapp@gmail.com.
